Artist Statement “Hands That Worship” I will praise You as long as I live, and in Your Name I will lift up my hands. Psalms 63:4 NIV “I’m coming back to a heart of worship …because it’s all about You, all about You, Jesus.” It is ALL about worship – hands that give glory to God and praise His Name. These images are inspired by the music on the CD, “Worship” by Michael W. Smith. This photography project uses visual images to symbolize each of the songs, either using the title or the words within the song. Together, they celebrate and give glory to God for the inspiration of both the music and the images. Hands are, by their nature, articulate, complex, beautiful in form and able to express emotions and feelings. God says that He holds us in the palm of His hands and that we are made in His image. In choosing hands that God designed as the theme, the artist hopes to portray through the beauty and design of hands, as well as the texture and function of hands, the ideas and thoughts associated with the songs of Michael W. Smith. Through the use of the placement of hands and the background details of each image, a message is communicated to the viewer. Each image is a symbolic statement of the artist’s spiritual faith and belief. Communicating emotions through photography, using visual art, is a language of its own. In Matthew 13:13, Jesus said: “That is why I tell these stories, because people see what I do, but they don’t really see. They hear what I say, but they don’t really hear, and they don’t understand.” He spoke another language, that of parables, to communicate his vision for the children of God. These images speak another language – that of symbolism and composition, using the properties of light – to communicate the idea of worship. The titles of each image are associated with a song on the “Worship” CD:
